All Politics is Local; Make Sure You’re Registered to Vote
Sisters and Brothers,
In office less than six weeks, the Obama administration has already made huge strides in making life better for working families. This new pro-worker team in the White House has already overturned bans on Project Labor Agreements on federally funded projects and just passed an important economic stimulus bill that will fund hundreds of billions of dollars of construction projects.
We helped create this new attitude in Washington, DC. Thanks to the hard work of many UA 250 members joining together with tens of thousands of union members across the country that walked precincts, manned phone banks and turned out to the polls to vote, we have an administration which is listening to us.
Now we have the opportunity to make an important impact in local elections this spring. Local and municipal elections are right around corner including an important election on March 3 in the City of Los Angeles. It is critical that this Local maintain the momentum from the November election to elect a slate of labor warriors at the local level.
Because we elected local officials who share our commitment to creating middle class jobs, the building trades have been able to negotiate numerous Project Labor Agreements that have secured work for our union members and contractors. The PLA’s with the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency and the Los Angeles Unified School District are worth over $37 billion.
I know many of you registered to vote for the November election. If you have recently moved or don’t know if you are registered, I urge you to take a few minutes to register. I also encourage all of our members to sign-up for a permanent vote by mail ballot to ensure you that you can easily cast your vote every election.
In Solidarity,
